Staff
committed the first year to educating staff and parents about Global
Education before educating students, as part of our official school goals. A team of 5 teachers brainstormed
and set up priorities for the school to accomplish.
Had an international potluck for Meet The Teacher night in September
On World Food Day (Oct. 16) we did a simulation exercise on global distribution of food ("The Cookie Game") at staff meeting
Set up classroom pen pals with schools in developing countries through the School Twinning Project
Distributed Under The Same Sun magazines (free from federal government, on development issues) to each student in the school
Set up bulletin board on Global Education for parent teacher interviews
Student Council held a fundraiser for Kenyan Foster Child
Distributed materials on development issues to teachers
Held school-wide food drive for the Food Bank
Set up Global Resources in the school library
Created bulletin boards on the Rights of the Child
Hosted a volunteer teacher from Fiji
Lynn Newman, Grade 1 teacher, did her annual international project. Her students each researched a country, and made a display and food to share with the school.
Staff donated to
a Christmas hamper for Santa's Anonymous
